About

The museum holds an anthropology collection within the school of Political and Social Inquiry at Monash University. Begun initially as a teaching collection, all of the artefacts have been donated to or sold to the museum by people with affiliations to the university in general or to the anthropology and sociology disciplines in particular. Since the museum is within a university, most of the audience are students, and the displays are all linked in some way to the subjects being taught in the school or to the lecturers fields of interest.

Our collection

The museum holds more than 1600 items (artefacts, photographs, flora, fauna) relating to the cultures of Aboriginal Australia, Melanesia and Indonesia.
